Decoding the Hong Kong Planning Standards and Guidelines Seminar Series

The Urban Studies Programme of The Chinese University of Hong Kong is organising a series of three seminars on 'Decoding the Hong Kong Planning Standards and Guidelines (HKPSG)' from May to July 2023.

1. Happy, Healthy City and the HKPSG Good urban planning and design are vital to the health and well-being of residents. The first seminar explores what the HKPSG is and what a happy and healthy city entails. It examines whether this planning document can create a happy and healthy city that enhances the multi-faceted well-being of citizens. The seminar interrogates the state of implementation of the HKPSG in various districts of Hong Kong and encourages discussions on what else can be done to build a happy and healthy city. 2. Spatial justice and the HKPSG Spatial justice is not only a matter of resource allocation but also a product of institutions, rules and procedures. The second seminar discusses what spatial justice is; reviews whether the HKPSG is fairly implemented across Hong Kong; and highlights the importance of having debates on fairness and justice in the process of formulating planning standards and guidelines. Date: 20 May 2023 Time: 2:00-3:30 pm Venue: Liber Research Community 7/F Breakthrough Centre, 191 Woo Sung Street, Jordan Speakers: Prof. Mee Kam Ng, Ms. Katherine Li 3. Lantau Tomorrow, Northern Metropolis and the HKPSG The Hong Kong government has proposed the 'Lantau Tomorrow' and the 'Northern Metropolis' development plans in recent years. The third seminar invites guest speakers from the government to explain the visions of the two plans and discusses whether the current HKPSG can achieve these visions. It appraises the relationship between the HKPSG and the long-term strategic development of Hong Kong.
